Susan Buice & Arin Crumley

Writers, Directors, Producers, Four Eyed Monsters

Susan Buice born in Arkansas and raised in Texas and Massachusetts went to college for Fine Arts, a completely ludicrous act of self-sabotage. Though she left college with none of the skills she would later need to implement her creative endeavours, she had managed to refine her aesthetic and tastes. Buice moved to New York in 2001, spent some time waiting tables and began dabbling with video and animation. In 2002 she met Arin Crumley, who quickly became her main collaborator. Her short film fischerchicks did the festival circuit and there are several animation sequences in her feature film Four Eyed Monsters (made in collaboration with Arin Crumley).

Arin Crumley was born in 1980, in Santa Rosa California, to Christian rock singer Eric Crumley. He wrote music and performed in a punk electro clash band and would create videos for their live shows. Forgoing a college education, Crumley started a video production company editing bar mitzvah and wedding videos, in hopes of raising money to take the band on tour. He moved to New York to pursue his solo career and work on his own projects. At the end of 2002, deciding he needed to come out of his self imposed shell, Crumley turned to his most reliable tool, his computer, where he pursued the Time Out New York online singles room, where he met Susan Buice. The two immediately began to collaborate due to a rule that when they meet in person, they would only communicate through drawings, written messages and video - a rule that led to the premise of their feature film and video podcast series.

Four Eyed Monsters, a collaborative partnership:
A year after their unique courtship began Four Eyed Monsters started to take hold. Art often imitating life, the premise mirrored the experiences the filmmakers had shared while becoming a couple. Buice and Crumley directed, acted, edited, produced, and shot, collaborating with friends as needed. In January 2005 the film premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival in Utah to sold-out audiences. They continued on the festival circuit, taking the film to a total of 16 film festivals, including festivals in Brazil and Germany. They won the best new directors award at the Brooklyn International Film Festival, the Special Audience award at SXSW and the Teen Jury Award at Newport International Film Festival. In late 2005 they moved to Susan's parents house to begin working on the Four Eyed Monsters video podcast. Presently they are self-distributing their film to the audience they built with the video podcast.
